About Indian Red Cross Society-Bhavnagar
The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) is a voluntary humanitarian International organization having a network of over 1100 branches throughout the country, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health & care to the vulnerable people and communities. The Mission of the Indian Red Cross is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of humanitarian activities to minimize and even prevent and thus, contribute to creating more congenial climate for peace. Operational since the time of independence, relentless service of Bhavnagar Branch of IRCS has created a distinguished identity of the organization. In the span of more than 60 years, it has served more than 3.0 million patients every year. Moreover, it currently runs more than 36 healthcare programs at its various sub-branches.
Indian Red Cross Society had been established in 1920 under the Indian Red Cross Society Act and incorporated under parliament Act-XV of 1920. The Act was last amended in 1992 and the rules were formed in 1994. Honorable President of the Union of India is the President of National Red Cross Society while Honorable Prime Minister is the Vice-President and Honorable Health Minister is the Chairman. The Governor of the state is the President of Gujarat State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society while honorable Chief-Minister is the Vice-President and Honorable Health Minister is the Chairman of the State Branch. In India approximately 36 State/ Union Territory Branches with their 1100 Branches of Red Cross Society are there. Bhavnagar Red Cross is a District Branch of Gujarat State of the Union of India. All State Red Cross Societies and UT Red Cross Societies are duly affiliated to Indian Red Cross Society. It has partnership with St. John Ambulance, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and International Committee of Red Cross.
IRCS – Bhavnagar, working since independence, is involved in various healthcare, Eye, Body and Organ donation activities as well as several peacetime activities along with disaster relief activities as and when needed while some on 24x7 basis towards execution of 7 principles of Red Cross of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Voluntary service, Independence, Unity, Universality.
Bhavnagar District Branch, has been proactively rendering its services since the time before Indian Independence by way of various initiatives & activism, has encouraged citizens for Eye donation, body donation, organ donation and to be substantially working in bringing awareness about Thalassemia amongst citizens. It is also matter of pride that Bhavnagar District Branch of Indian Red Cross Society has reached to the extent that now it is running two hospitals at Alang as Alang Ship Breaking Yard Red Cross Hospital and Multispeciality Hospital at Alang where the facilities are availed to prevent citizens visiting Quack and making essential medical facilities free of cost. Till now 2.5 million people had been benefited by the services offered by Bhavnagar District Branch. Bhavnagar District Branch is running more than 36 Health Care Activities.
